ASAM’s Fellow designation gives recognition to and raises awareness of ASAM members who are board certified addiction specialists. ASAM Fellows are able to use the FASAM designation after their name and use the special ASAM Fellow logo on certain pre-authorized items. To qualify for the FASAM designation, physicians must be members of ASAM for at least two (2) consecutive years, AND are currently certified in addiction medicine by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American Academy/Association of Orthopedic Medicine (AAOM) or the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Addiction Psychiatry, or the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM).
Published six times per year, the Journal of Addiction Medicine is the official journal of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. It is currently ranked tenth in the Substance Abuse category of the 2012 Journal Citation Reports’ Science Edition. The Journal is designed for all physicians and other mental health professionals who need to keep up-to-date with the treatment of addiction disorders. Under the guidance of an esteemed Editorial Board, peer-reviewed articles published in the Journal focus on developments in addiction medicine as well as on treatment innovations and ethical, economic, forensic, and social topics. ASAM serves its members in many ways. One of the most important ways is by helping members play an active role in shaping government policies that affect their livelihoods and the lives of their patients. ASAM advocates for policies that promote access to high-quality prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for the millions of Americans who suffer from a substance use disorder.
ASAM has been an ACCME-accredited provider of continuing education since 1977, and is a recognized leader in the planning and presentation of educational events in the addiction field. ASAM resources and tools to assist addiction medicine specialists in running their practices. Members receive exclusive discounts on live and online ASAM courses and published texts.
The ASAM Career Center is designed to meet the needs of both job seekers and employers in the field of addiction medicine. The ASAM Career Center offers job seekers free and confidential resume posting, automated weekly email notification of new job listings, and the ability to save jobs for later review.
ASAM State Chapters provide networking, service, and professional learning opportunities for our members across the nation. Local events, courses and meetings provide opportunities to network, and develop lifelong professional relationships.
