Description: You received YEARS of undergrad science. Then you received even more in your health professions school. But, how much science teaching did you receive about the disease of Addiction? Compare that with all the science you received about Diabetes. Did you know that the prevalence of the disease of Addiction equals the prevalence of Diabetes in the United States? These patients are in your office, across the desk from you, begging for help —or for controlled substances — and you don’t know where to begin. There is help!! For you AND for them. Join us for Addiction Medicine 101.
This course is a quick introduction to the basic science of Addiction taught by a board-certified Addictionologist. (Yes, there IS science that can be applied to the disease of Addiction. Yes, just like other diseases, Addiction has its own experts.) This course covers basic definitions, pathophysiology, diagnosis and most importantly, the correct approach when triaging and treating people with the disease of Addiction. Addiction IS treatable. People CAN get better. View Addiction 101 Brochure.
